  2. There were three classes: Women of the upper class, women of the lower class, and the underclass women. None the women in any classes any power, they were difference in the daily life, family life and working life. The worst the worst class to be in was the underclass women. With no type of education these women mostly relied on organizations .
Most of the women were in the lower class. Some women began working between the ages of 8 and 12. Like the underclass and lower class women were often being pick on by the wealthy society because their lives wasn't like theirs. Some of the jobs that were available to them were: domestic service, agricultural laborers, seamstress, washer women, and serving the wealthy residents.

The working condition wasn't great. People was getting paid $1.25 to $1.50 per day.The largest city would pay $2.00 per hour. They was working hard labor but barely any pay. There issues were:
Long hours (60-80 hours a week)
    Unsafe conditions
Competition from women and children who earned even less.
In 1860 there was over 40% of women and children working in the factory. A women salary was $4.00 every week. Samuel Gompers wanted the Union to start a boycott, use strike weapons to increase the wages, safe working condition, and shorter hours.

    1. The American Federation Of Labor was a loose group of small union crafters. Those crafters were people such as masons unions. Also the hat makers unions or the grompers who own cigar makers unions. So that made them such skilled workers. It was founded in Columbia, Ohio in may of 1886.
So the cigar makers international union was elected president of the federation. Its founding conventions and was reelected every year until his death in 1924. The AfL at one point was the largest grouping in the united states of the first half of the 20th century. But in 1955,The AFL merged with its long rival the Congress of Industrial Organizations(CIO). So they could form AFL-CIO the federation that remains in today's labor.

  3. 2.) During the late nineteenth century there were several attempts at organizing a national labor union. They included the National Labor Union, the Knight’s of Labor, and the American Federation of Labor. All three of these unions fought for similar goals, but only the American Federation of Labor was able to survive the ninetieth century. The National Labor Union was the first attempt to organize workers throughout the country. It was founded in 1866, as a federation of national and local unions as well as city federations. It grew quickly, within two years it had close to two thirds of a million members.
The NLU attempted to organize all workers, they included skilled as well as unskilled laborers, and these laborers consisted of both agricultural and industrial workers. They sought higher wages and an eight hour workday. The NLU also championed several issues of social reform. The NLU worked for rights of women and blacks, worker cooperatives, and monetary reforms.

Working Women. . During this time period women were treated differently then men.Women started to work in factories. These women were either single or married. When women started working in these factories it started to be a problem because women should work in the home the men are the "bread winners" of the family. With a different century the average wage for men was $597 but for women $314 and they were doing the same job. They made a big difference between men and women by the 1990s. Working conditions were awful for workers.Filthy areas, little thought to the continued health of the workers. Workers were forced to buy most of their supplies from Company stores. The prices of these tools were high so, they never had enough money to find work at another place. Factories worked by night as well as by day, and the hours got longer. There was no increase in wage for night shifts either. And if someone happened to get hurt at work, or damage goods or equipment they would penalized them and deduce there pay.

  5. To what extent did the Natural Resources promoted the industrial development of the United States from the 1865 to 1900.
The United States had people with capitol, or money, to spend on developing industries and businesses. They also had important natural resources such as iron, coal, and oil. These resources were needed to develop the steel, oil, and railroad industries. From these three industries, hundreds of other industries developed. The U.S. had the energy sources it had to run railroads and factories. During the early days of the Industrial Revolution, steam and water power were the main types of energy used in factories. Later coal, oil, and electricity became important sources of energy. The U.S. was developing a large railroad system. The railroads moved natural resources, such as coal, oil, and iron, to where they were needed. New inventions helped the growth of industry. New inventions such as the telegraph and telephone made it possible to communicate over long distances. The U.S. had a large population. There were plenty of people to work in factories, build railroads, and make new inventions. America was based on a capitalist economy. Under capitalism and free enterprise, people own businesses and industries and keep the profits that they earn.

  6. Analyze the goals, methods, and achievements of TWO of the following organizations:Natural resources and Labor.

During 1865 to 1900 the world was becoming more industrialized. Industrialization in America was a suprisingly quick process. There became more ideas, and different methods of doing things. Natural resources and labor promoted industrialization.

The U.S. was its own source of raw materials necessary for industrialization, such as coal, iron ore, steel, copper, lead, timber, and oil. The natural resource coal promoted the transcontinental rail road, which the trains needed to run. The rates for immigration had already been high in the years of 1865 to 1900. The high increase supply of laborers and high demand for industrial jobs made labor cheap. Immigrants such as asians and chinese would come in and build the railroads. These railroads became the nations first big business. These railroads led to the expansion of many other rail road routes. Like i sayed befor , the resources needed to build the nation wide network of railroads led to growth in other industries which were the natural resources coal and steel. The following industries promoted the industrializaion in the years 1865 and 1900.

  7. During the time period of 1865-1900 women and middle class wre not doing so good. Women were treated unfairly. Therefore they started working in factories both young, poor, married.single and old. This cause major problems because the men felt like women shoukd not be working. The women didn't care and they continue to work. They didn't apperciate how they were being treated while working either.Their paycheckes were not the same even if they were doing the same job.
Middle class workers were being misued. They had to made and buy the supplies they help make at the factories. They reduced money from their paychecks if someone or something was to happen on the job.Even if they were working longer their paychecks still didn't increase.

    Labor
    Business Management

There were many things that promoted industrial development of the United States from 1865 to 1900. Two of these are Labor and Natural Resources. With labor, products could be produced in large quantities through employee labor. It started out as numerous workers doing varies different jobs. Then, when the demand for products raised, companies began mass producing and thus began employee labor and mass production in order to meet the demands of large quantities of certain products. There was also immigrants, whom came to America for a fresh start, that were doing labor. The immigrants would work on railroad building sites. Most of these immigrants were Irish or Chinese. There was also labor in the areas where there were natural resources that were needed for factories and Industrial plants.

Natural resources played a significant role in Industrial development. In order to construct buildings and house, or just produce materials or energy, we needed natural resources, such as coal, gold, oil, and steel. The need for these natural resources lead to mines, wells, and excavation sites. In these places, people would either mine, dig, or drill in pursuit of gold, coal, oil, or steel. People would either do it for themselves or, most often, work for companies. Thus, the mining towns were created. These towns were created to that miners could live close to the mines they worked in and sometimes have there families live there with them. They also used these resources to create fuel, such as burning coal, or to make buildings and cars, such as steel foundations for building or steel frames and exterior for cars.

  13. The two main things that real promted the rise of industrisl developement is the labor and the natural resources. Labor is just what it sounded like. People could come and make products at a fast pace for wages. In some situations they would have a place to live for the work they do as well as the wages.

Next, the natural resources payed a big role in the industrial development. See to build anything they would need these resources to make buildings and tools to make theses buildings

  17. 3. Assess the impact of industrialization from 1865 to 1900 on TWO of the following groups:
    Middle Class
    Wage Earners
    Working Women

The impact of industrilization was an big improvement to the middle class in that time period. To the wage earners, their were more jobs open for them, though the salary was miminum wage. The territories were being urbanized, big businesses were booming, so were the immigrant population. The big impact had both positive and negative effects.Railroad in America increased from 35,000 miles to 192,000 miles to the land given after the civil war.

For the middle class it was a good improvement but new comming immigrants were taking jobs that others didnt accept. So they were limited after a while. Wager earners were getting good earnings form investing in industries like steel, oil, and coal mines. And working women were getting jobs in the sewing industry, sometimes even their children of young age.
