  2. 2. Analyze the ways TWO of the following helped bring a shift from a agricultural economy to an industrial economy in the US in the early 1800s: Commercial Farming, Factory System, Labor, Transportation

The US started out with an agricultural economy. This is when the economy of a country like the US is dependent on things like farming. As time progressed, the economy began to become more of an industrial economy, an economy that is more dependent on businesses and factories. One of the main causes of this economic shift is transportation. During the 1800s, around the time of Manifest Destiny, there was need for transportation and in order to have that they had to start building. This began the building of railroads. They had to have factories to build the trains and railroads. They used trains to transport mail, materials for factories, and people. The trains weren't the only means of transportation that had to be built during this time. Cars had to be built. All of these things that were need had to be built in industrial plants and factories.

The factory system was not only a means of making thing but a way for people in the US to work. People could work in factories instead of farming. Farming became less and less of a commonly thought of job. With factories and the factory system, we could package food, build the things we needed, and provide people with jobs. All of this caused the economy to shift from agriculture to industries.

  3. 1)The Monroe Doctrine was designed to show a clear break between the New World and the oppressive realm of Europe. George Washington wanted us to keep out of European Activities. Monroe and John Quincy Adams felt that if we told Europe to stay out of South and Central America, it would be calmer to keep out of European affairs.

2)economy and different types of businesses that fit the needs of each pair of hands. People from Europe were mainly coming to the Northern parts of the United States, thus the reason why they didn't necessarily believe in slavery later on in the years, and the South had an old system of slaves shipped from Africa during the slave trade in the mid 1700's. North had Irish workers, while the South had blacks. The western and middle parts of the United States were pretty much just territory in the early 1800's. They hadn't really been discovered.

  9. 1. The Monroe Doctrine was made to clearly clear out the New World from all kinds of European activities. It was put to past because Quincy Adams basically wanted to tell Europe if they stay out of Central America it would calm down other situations that's going on.

    2. Commercial farming and transportation help shift the agriculture economy back in the 1800s. Commercial farming changed a lot of thing. This basically gave the people up north more money because of the cash crops that were produced. Transportation gave people more ways to get places because it gave people better oppurtunity to get long distances.

  10. 1.) In the case of the Monroe Doctrine, however, the outcomes are best explained in terms of domestic politics. 1824 was a presidential election year, and Monroe was planning to retire. This played a role in determining the events of 1823. John Quincy Adams was planning to run for President; he hoped to run under a Republican campaign. However, he had traditionally been connected to the opposing Federalist party, which was usually known as being more pro-British. Adams knew that being connected to this stance would badly hurt him in his chance for an election. As Monroe's Secretary of State, these factors greatly contributed to the decisions of the administration. On the other hand, John C. Calhoun and former presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison all advised Monroe to form a bond with Great Britain. Monroe, however, eventually agreed with Adams. As a result, the Monroe Doctrine actually more accurately portrays the ideas of John Quincy Adams.

2.) In the late 1800s, the American railway system become a nationwide transportation network. The total distance of all railway lines in operation in the United States soared from about 14,500 kilometers in 1850 to almost 320,000 kilometers in 1900. A high point in the railway development came in 1869, when workers laid tracks that joined the Central Pacific railways near Ogden, Utah. This event marked the completion of the world's first transcontinental railway system. the system connected the United States by rail from coast to coast.

The factory system was a method of manufacturing first practiced in England at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 1750s and later spread abroad. This system replaced the putting-out system. The main characteristic of the factory system was the use of machinery, usually powered by water or steam. Other characteristics of the system mostly derive from the use of machinery or economies of scale.

  11. The three factors that contributed to the Monroe Doctrine was the separate spheres of influence for the Americas and Europe, non-colonization, and non-intervention. It was designed to signify a clear break between the New World and the autocratic realm of Europe. James Monroe's administration forewarned the imperial European powers against interfering in the affairs of the upcoming United States territories. The Americans objected to European colonies in the New World. They also wanted to increase United States influence and trading ties throughout the region to their south. European mercantilism posed the greatest obstacle to economic expansion. The Americans feared that Spain and France might strengthen colonialism over the Latin American people who had just overthrown European rule.
The Monroe Doctrine made it clear the United States would no longer tolerate interference from foreign countries on South American countries. The United States put a wall of protection around the nations which allowed them to develop their own governments and culture. When the Monroe Doctrine passed America really didn't have the military. Great Britain's interests was with those of the Doctrine and it became the issue behind the threat. This furthered the relationship of the two countries that linked their destinies into the future.

  12. The Monroe Doctrine was an American diplomatic decision that eventually swayed the world and the way it has developed to present day. In Monroe's message to Congress on December 2, 1823, the President delivered what we have always called the Monroe Doctrine, although many assert that it should have been called the Adams Doctrine. On December 2, 1823, his address to Congress, President James Monroe enunciated United States' policy on the new political order developing in the rest of the Americas and the role of Europe in the Western Hemisphere. The statement, known as the Monroe Doctrine, was little noted by the Great Powers of Europe, but eventually became a longstanding tenet of U.S. foreign policy.
Monroe and his Secretary of State John Quincy Adams came about with a foundation of American diplomatic ideals such as separating the European affairs and defense of neutral rights as stated in Washington's Farewell Address and Madison's stated justification for waging the War of 1812. The three main concepts of the doctrine separate spheres of influence for the Americas and Europe, non-colonization, and non-intervention were designed to signify a clear break between the New World and the autocratic realm of Europe. Monroe's administration forewarned the imperial European powers against interfering in the affairs of the newly independent Latin American states or potential United States territories. While Americans generally objected to European colonies in the New World, they also desired to increase United States influence and trading ties throughout the region to their south. European mercantilism posed the greatest obstacle to economic expansion.

  13. On December 2 1823, the Monroe Doctrine was a policy of the United States. This policy states that further efforts by European nations to colonize land or interfere with states in North or South America would be viewed as acts of aggression, requiring U.S. intervention. The three major factors that affected the Monroe Doctrine were to minimize European influence on our country, and keep out of foreign affairs. This new policy would keep The United States from falling into the other countries authority. Since, the United States was new to be it own new country.

George Washington thought it was a good idea to keep away from other countries affairs. He said that we should just be a one mane country and not to join alliances with other countries. If the country was to do this they would fall into to war just for another country. They also wanted their people to stay away from other countries, due to influence. The Monroe Doctrine is a policy to keep other foreign affairs away from the United States.

  15. 2. Labor in the New World increased in expensive investments in machinery production. With the shift from hand-made to heavy machinery products a new era of human experience had begun. Also, with new machines and there productivity it has increased in a new standard of living. In addition to Labor, transportation was a big help. Transportation was used to transport goods from point A to point B. They used waterways, roads, and railroads to transport the different products. Transporting things such as: coal or iron, the waterway was the cheapest way to go. On the roads people traveled on foot, by wagon or horse.

  16. 1) The Monroe Doctrine was a document that was presented to the Congress on December 2, 1823. This stated that no further efforts by European countries can colonize land or interfere with states in the Americas. The author of the Monroe Doctrine was John Quincy Adams but the James Monroe administration signed the document and James Monroe took credit. James Monroe and John Quincy Adams felt as though they should tell them (Europeans) that if Europe stay out of North and South America then the Europeans wouldn't have no reason to have any contact with the Americas. One reason this document was created was because John Quincy Adams saw that Austria and France would send troops to the Americas to help Spain regain her lost colonies in South America.
