He is talking about is bipartisanship, which is a two- way treaty or support of both sides. The Federalists were led by John Adams and Alexander Hamilton while Jefferson and Madison led the Democratic Republicans. His statement was not true. The way that Jefferson handled the country was a way of civic virtue, putting the country before his own beliefs, but to do this he had to agree with more Republican ideas than Federalist ideas. During his presidency, he always took the Republican side of things. The foreign affairs that he helped in was The Louisiana Purchase, and Embargo and Non-Intervention Acts. The domestic affairs he had to handle were the Federalists opposing his course of action, and beliefs. The domestic affairs he had to face was just his opposition from Federalists. They disagreed with the ways that Jefferson handled foreign affairs, with the exception of The Louisiana Purchase, and the laws and acts that he passed. Jefferson did do what seemed best for the country from a Republican stand point. He tried to do acts of civic virtue, but many Federalists disagreed with everything he did. With respect to domestic and foreign affairs, Jefferson's statement "We are all Republicans, We are all Federalists" is not very true. He was just saying this so that the Federalists would believe in him. If he didn't make the Federalists believe in him there could've been many political problems. He listened to what Federalists had to say, but just took threw them away. He thought he could have a bipartisanship government, but at the time Federalists and Republicans disagreed on far too many things.
ReplyDeleteThat was very informative Adreunna. You were precise and I notice that you included good word choice.
DeleteExplain the influence of TWO of the following on the US decision to go to war in 1812:
ReplyDelete• Embargo policies of Jefferson and Madison
• British impressment of US Navy seamen
• Settlers conflict with the Native Americans
The British-imposed embargoes were to refute economic resources to Napoleon. Napoleon was who Britain was trying to free Western Europe from getting any control. These embargoes affected the southern states in various ways. However, the northern states were stronger trading partners with Britain. It was nothing new that war with Britain would cut off the trade of the northern states; therefore they were not only anti-war movements in the northern states, but an actual secession movement in the New England states. In conclusion, this favored leaving the Union rather than fighting with Britain.
The British Navy had an extensive preparation of impressing sailors into service when it was needed. Though, this did not separate the British, colonials, or Americans. It was the risk that American sailors took by going ashore in a British port. The Americans felt this was so unfair, kidnapping their citizens and forcing them into serving a foreign power, and this was one of the chief reasons for war in the New England states.

Settlers conflict with the Native Americans. . .The British had embargoes that were to deny economic resources to Napoleon. Great Britain was willing to free Western Europe from control. Bascically, the embargoes effected the Southern U.S. states. The Northern U.S. states were stronger trading partners with Britain. The Embargo Act came into place in 1807.The law forbade any American ship from leaving for a foreign port. Great Britain going to War with the Nothern States (13 colonies) Would be a cut on trade expenses. the British Navy were impressing sailors. The British Navy had a history of doing this act. They didnt disguise this between British, colonials, or the Americans. The Americans felt like kidnapping their citizens and forcing them into serving a foreign power was wrong. The War Hawks leader was Henry Clay. Leading up to the War of 1812, Henry Clay was the Speaker of the House. Meanwhile, members of congress were willing to fight for America. These Congress members came from South and West. They wanted War with England (Great Britain) and the Native Americans.
2. Assess the pressures in the early part of the 19th century to force Native Americans from their lands along the western frontier of the United States in the context of TWO of thew following:
ReplyDeleteThere was enormous pressure to force Native Americans to move from their land to the western frontier. Before the early part of 19th Century, the American colonies never truly accepted the Native American colonies. There were attempts to convert them, live among them, as well as to civilize them. None of these attempts worked. The American colonies finally decided to separate themselves from the Native Americans. They didn't like the Native Americans but they wanted the Native Americans' land.
The American colonies wanted the Native Americans' land because they felt that the Native Americans weren't using the land properly. They also knew that there was value in the Native Americans' land. Their land was fertile and there could have been crops in that land that the American colonists could use. It has been said that the Native Americans were moved due to President Andrew Jackson's disdain for Native Americans. This claim was never found to be true. In all, the Native Americans were moved west because the Americans wanted their land and the Americans didn't really like them.
This is very good Gloria. Good word choice. Wonderful essay.

On December 1807, Congress based the Embargo Act, which stopped exports and prohibited merchant ships for foreign ports. The act was effectively ended imports because foreign ships would not bring products to the United States. The British managed to get around the Embargo Act by developing trade routes with South America. Thousands of sailors were thrown out of work, merchants declared bankruptcy, and southern and western farmers had no outlet for their crops. The nation was unhappy over the Embargo Act, but Republican James Madison was elected president and the Republicans kept control of both house of Congress. The Embargo Act was repealed on March 1, 1809; before Madison took office.

ReplyDeleteWith the respect to foreign policy, Thomas Jefferson quote " We are all Republicans,we are all Federalist". That quote seems to be more on the Neutral side but Jeffersons actions did not act on neutral they were more so Republican driven. Throughout Jeffersons presidency he always seemed to take the Republican way of getting to that goal. Jefferson handled the country in a way of civic virtue, puttin the country befor his own beliefs. To do this there had to be some form of agreement with MORE republican ideas than federalist.
