4. From 1600-1763, several European nations vied for control of the North American continent. Why did England win the struggle?
5. Britain's wars for empire (French and Indian War), far more than its mercantilist policies, dictated the economic fortunes of Britain's North American colonies in the eighteenth century. Assess the validity of this statement.

ReplyDelete4. England won the struggle because the Spanish and French didn’t really make an effort to take control of the North American continent, because they had problems and duties of their own to handle. With their army (The Spanish Armada) and their riches from all of their explorations in the world the Spanish were the most powerful nation before the colonizing of the West Indies but unfortunately, during the early 1600’s, The Spanish had to take care of problems in their Dutch territories therefore leaving the West Indian Islands open for grabs. The French owned land from Quebec all the way down to the end of the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The French were in the business of trapping and fur trade. The French never really had a chance to control the New World because they were not as powerful as the Spanish
ReplyDelete5. After the French and Indian war Britain fell into debt, so the government imposed taxes on colonies to pay for the cost of weapons, soldier’s pay, and supplies. They also developed the mercantilist polices. This eventually led to rebellion, conflicts, and even boycotts. These so called solutions affected the economic fortunes of the colonies. The taxes took away their money and affected their economy. The cost of war forever changed the fortunes of North American colonies because it was mainly their money that was being taken away.
I think you answered the questions well and but need more details.
DeleteI liked the way you answered the question. You seemed to know what you were talking about but with a little less detail than I expected. Still, it was a nice answer anyways.
Delete#4 British and French explorers laid claim to many parts of what is now the U.S. During the late 1600s and the mid 1700s, the two European powers fought a series of four wars in their struggle for control of North America. Three of the wars brroke out in Europe before they spread to America. English and French colonists fought King's William war, Queen Anne's war, and King George's war. King William's war saw no gain for either side. After Queen Anne's war they both signed the Treaty off Urecht in which France ceded Newfoundland,Acadia, and the Hudson Bay territory. The struggle did not conclude until the fourth war, in which the British won.
ReplyDelete#5 I agree with this statement because the british wars for empire effected the colonists financially. When the british troops were ordered to stay in their home. The british believed that since the british troops were for tge new world's protection that they shoul house them.
1. Well among 1600 and 1763, it was the French that primarily went against the British for North American territory. The French and Spanish didn’t even try to take control of the North. It wasn’t even a priority of theirs, but it was of England’s. France came for the pelts and fish. Spain fail out of the amusement quite early on for several reasons, however it suffered greatly from its loss of power following the 1648 treat of Westphalia. The English came for the gold and jewels they believed littered the beaches. They stayed for the land and the ability to make money.
ReplyDelete2. I agree with this statement because the British were indded very effective towards others.Britain and its American colonies had been dealing with altercations about trade laws and colonial action after the treaty in the year of 1748. During the Seven Years' War, the relationship between British military regulars and colonial militias added to the tensions. The be short of a aggressive European colonial power in North America gave the American colonists a sense of independence that clashed with new British imperial stress such as stationing soldiers in the colonies and the Proclamation of 1763.
I like the information you gave. It was very interesting. I also liked the fact that you the alternate name for the French and Indian War.
DeleteDuring 1600's to the middle of the 1700s several European nations strived to control North America.France, Spain, and Great Britain were all powerhouses trying to colonize the free world and create a large empire out of he three. England won the struggle because of the mistakes /failures made by the Spanish and French, years before the American Revolution. The Spanish were the most poweful nation befor the colonizing of the west indies began.. They had the Spanish Armada who was known for never losing a single battle. They also had all the riches of the world because of all there explorations. During the 1600s the spanish begaan to experince exertion from over extention with their army. Without all of the failures and accomplishments our world wouldnt be what it is today. We all have to learn from our mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThat is my Question# 1
DeleteQuestion#2 I agree with this statment in reason of Britain helping out with many of the things toward the war yhaving great effects. The impact of the victory on the British meant an expansion of terrirory inthe New World. British were in debt, however because of the price of the war. The english leaders felt there colonies needed major reorganization and they felt that the central management should be in London. All of these problems led up to solutions. The proclamation of 1763 yet was a cause for great celebration in the colonies, for it removed several evil barriers and opened up a host of new opportunities for the colonist.
DeleteVery smart thinking. I like how you backed up your information.
DeleteYou have good details and it seem like you know what you are talking bout.
DeleteQuestion 1:
ReplyDeleteFrom the early 1600s to the mid 1700s, several European nations vied to control North America. France, Spain, and Great Britain wanted power over the New World. Unfortunately, England won the battle. The Spanish left there territory so, Great Britain got the land. They used the land to trade sugar and other resources. The Spanish were more focused on religion then building a big empire like the English. The English had power and better resources.
Question 2:
The Navigation Acts played a role of colonial trade and shipping. The Navigation Acts was a series of twenty-nine laws passed by the British Parliament. Goods such as, cotton, lumber, tobacco, wool, and sugar had to be shipped through Great Britain first. For the items that were shipped they had to pay heavy taxes. Also, the Proclamation of 1763 is another example. The Proclamation closed off the frontier to colonial expansion.
4) From 1600-1763, England along with other European countries competed for control of the North American continent. The English eventually won this competition, or war. This was mainly done with the help of the English Colonists. They knew the land and better and had some relation with the Native Americans in the area that this war took place. This gave the English an advantage in the war for control of North America.
ReplyDelete5) Britain's war for empire dictated the American colonies economically through not only mercantilist polices but through taxation and imperialism. The British used it's power as the mother country to control the American colonies. They did this by taking control of all of the 13 colonies trading with other countries. The British also taxed the colonies without proper representation or reasoning. Then the British never gave the colonies the land that they promised them even though the colonies needed it. This cause an increase in overpopulation and crowding of the 13 colonies therefore making it hard for them to prosper agriculturally.
4)From the early 1600’s to the mid 1700’s, several European nations vied to control North America.Spain, Great Britain, and France were all powerhouses trying to colonize the free world and create a massive empire. Out of the three, England won the struggle because of failures made by the Spanish and French in the years before the American Revolution. The Spanish were the most powerful nation before the colonizing of the West Indies began. Unfortunately, during the early 1600’s, the Spanish began to experience fatigue from overextension with their army. The Spanish had to take care of problems in their Dutch territories causing them.
ReplyDelete5)This statement is very much true. Great Britain and American were already having altercations with trade and colonization. While the Seven Years' War was going on, the relationship between British military regulars and colonial militias added to the problems. That really didnt make it any better.
I like your essay it was interesting. You put in a lot of details
DeleteYour first blog was very thorough. I like that you didnt just state the basic but you went into detail. I can also tell that you did a lot of research
Delete#4) From the early 1600's to the mid 1700's, there were many European nations vied to control North America. There were three (3) different countries that wanted the power of the new world, those 3 were France,Spain, and Great Britain. Unfortunately, England won the battle. The Spanish turned their back on their land and great Britain had took their land, they used the land for trade routes. The Spanish had their focus on religion than anything else.
ReplyDelete#5) Britain's war for empire dictated the American colonies economically through not only mercantist policies but through taxation and imperialism. The American colonies were controlled by British cause of their power. Britain taxed the colonies without proper representation or reasoning. Britain had promised them some land cause they needed it. This made the population grow crowding the the colonies which made it hard for them to prosper agriculturally.
I liked your blog because it was interesting. I learned a few things I didnt know. Also, you have a very high vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteQuestion4:1600's to the mid 1700's seneral european nations vied control north america. Spain, Great Britian, and France were all powerhouses trying to come together to make a large empire. Out of all of them england ended up winning because of the spanish failures.
ReplyDeleteQuestion5: The wars affected tthe north american colonies more than mercantilism. Because winning the wars in north america represented wealth an opportunities an mercantilism only keep a flow of the revenue. Then the crop of the england benefited the england so this proved to be a large piece of economy fortunes for amercan colonies in the 18th century.
4) Well England won the struggle because The Spanish wasn’t really interested in the North Americans continent. The Spanish had a good army called Spanish Armada which was also known for not losing a battle. The Spanish began to experience fatigue from overextension with their army. France established trades with the ocean line. France didn’t send a large number of settlers to North America. England came for the gold and jewels; but also stayed for the land and the ability to make money. England had a powerful stable army and better economy then the Spanish.
ReplyDelete5) I agree with the statement because the war wasn’t only a political and economically for Britain. British controlled the American colonies since they were the mother country and also had more power. The war put Britain in debt. Which lead to the colonies being taxed no reason; America (13 colonies) began to be over crowded.
