  1. 2.)Assess the effectiveness of the military leadership, strategies, and tactics of the North and the South during the Civil War.

The north had more or bigger numbers in the military which made it easier for them to win wars. Also the north had more numbers of settlers than the south too. North had a lot of manufacturing power so they could make more weapons and bullets. Then the north had better railroad's which made it quicker and easier to transport goods. But their main goal was to destroy or dominate the south and anything they had that was useable.
The south had smarter military commanders to control their army. That came from their military schools in the west. Also the south had defeated some of the north fights on their own turf. The south had better fielding crops for cotton and more land. The south main goal was to kill or defeat northern soldiers and also capture them too.

  2. 1. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

When all the men were away fighting they were not able to farm. There were food shortages as time passed. The price of everything went up fast as the supply of everything diminished. The Union blockade of about 200 Southern ports was an important keypoint in denying the South supplies. As the war increased the Union blockade became more and more effective. The South could not trade its cotton and tobacco for European products which it needed. The blockade and the Union control of the Mississippi River caused a stranglehold on the South.

The South was a confederation as its name implies. It was made up of independent states. So President Jefferson Davis couldn't force the individual states, like Georgia, to do anything. He never had the power that Lincoln had in the North. Also the South was almost totally agricultural instead of industrial. It couldn't begin to match the industrial output of the North. The North had a lot more of everything; railroads, factories, etc. The armory at Springfield, MA produced vast numbers of standardized rifles and other armaments. The South produced armaments in different places that was a logistics nightmare because of different calibers.

  3. While the men were away fighting battles they were not able to farm. So there were food shortages after awhile. The price of everything increased dramatically as the supply of everything diminished. The Union blockade of about 200 Southern ports was a big factor in denying the South supplies. As the war increased the Union blockade became more and more effective. The South could not trade its cotton and tobacco for European products which it needed. The blockade and the Union control of the Mississippi River caused a stranglehold on the South. Another thing was that the South (the Confederacy) was a "confederation" as its name implies. It was made up of independent states. So President Jefferson Davis couldn't force the individual states, like Georgia, to do anything. He never had the power that Lincoln had in the North. Also the South was almost totally agricultural instead of industrial. It couldn't begin to match the industrial output of the North. The North had a lot more of everything; railroads and factories. The armory at Springfield, MA produced vast numbers of standardized rifles and other armaments. The South produced armaments in different places that was a logistics nightmare because of different calibers. So you see the North had all the economic and political advantages. I hope that this has been a help to you.

  4. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

The economic reason for the civil war was the taxes on imported and exported goods. The tariffs that the national government put on imported and exported goods affected the Southern economy, but benefited the Northern economy. This helped escalate tensions between the Union and the Southern states. The southern economy depended on selling cotton overseas, but the North had become very industrialized, and their profits went down when trading with England and other European countries was so easy, so the U.S. put taxes on importing and exporting goods to encourage trade between the sections of the country.

Slavery was the obvious political reason for the American Civil War. Most people in the North wanted to abolish slavery, while the Southern society and economy held the institution at its center. The debate over whether new states entering the union should be slave or free was a heated one, especially as in the years before the civil war, the number of Senators from slave and free states were equal, and each side wanted to prevent the other from having an advantage.

  5. It would not be correct to say that at all. The southern states were fighting to try to preserve the relationship between the several states and between the states and the central government that they thought had always existed. They were trying to avoid having to accept what they feared were significant changes to those relationships. Thus they were not conducting a revolution at all. they were conducting a rebellion for conservatism.
    ---
It would be correct to say for a few reasons actually. They broke away from their nation, similar to the way the colonies did. That one fact is what makes the two relatively close. The Confederates created their own government, constitution, and army. Like the British, the North saw it as just a rebellion. The South also seceded from the Union for similar reasons. They felt they did not have the right to govern themselves. They also felt they had no voice in the national government when Lincoln was elected. In fact, one could say they actually did have their right and voice in both occasions, but they still felt that way. Had the Civil War been successful, the connection between the two would probably feel stronger.

  6. 1. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

During the Civil War a lot of the men were fighting in the war. Meaning they were not able to farm. This caused for the food to be low.The price of everything suddenly increased, as the supplies got lower. The Union blockade was about 200 ports of the south. The blockade became more effective as the war continued. With the Union control over the Mississippi River this caused a hold on th south which they needed.

The south was made up of independent state. They were called the Confederates. They had the chance of doing what they wanted. Meaning President Davis could not force states like Georgia to fight in the war. He did not have much power like Lincoln did in the north. Being that the south was mainly agriculture, they could not match up with the output of the north being the north was industrial. The North had more advantages than the south.

  7. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

The South economic and political compared to the North, caused it to lose the American Civil War. The North had manpower and resources. The Northern Union had a population of 22,000,000 compared to the 9,000,000 of the South.3,500,000 were slaves whom the South would not arm due to the fear of slave revolt. The government faced such a critical manpower shortage that it began drafting men as young as 17 and as old as 50. The Union control most the resources of the United States. Northern monopolized industries allowed the Union to become fully self-sufficient and manufacture its own supplies. The Confederacy, on the other hand, had few industrial outputs and had to therefore rely on foreign imports

  8. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

During the Civil War nobody was farming due to people fighting in the War. South couldn't trade cotton or tobacco. Food prices increased while the food decreased. The North had factories, railroads and other industrial items while, the South had slaves and cotton. The economy for the South depended on selling cotton overseas. The South was almost agricultural than industrial.

President Jefferson Davis couldn't really tell the South what to do because they were individual states. Other than Davis, Lincoln had better control of the North than President Davis had over the Confederacy (South). The south wanted to keep slavery while, the North wanted to abolish it.

  9. To what extent is it correct to say that the Civil War represented a second American Revolution?

Well, a lot of people thought they were fighting the same fight, the right to govern themselves rather than be controlled by some far away government, all over again.
At the same time, the perception that the South didn't have a voice in the national government was really pretty ridiculous. Lincoln was elected president without a single electoral vote from the south, but that's because all the votes were split between a Northern Democrat, a Southern Democrat, and someone else random .The South felt that it didn't have a voice in the national government, and that the national government was gaining too much power and taking liberties with that power. From that perspective, it is the Revolutionary War all over again. However, the South did have a rather substantial voice in the national government, and the federal government wasn't doing anything, or at least not much, that wasn't in the Constitution. So from that perspective, the South was just sore over losing a presidential election to someone whose views might mean the end of their way of life, and that's entirely true.
No doubt that the real meaning of the Civil War is completely different from the one we are used to. Civil War is called the Second American Revolution by some great historians. The term "Second American Revolution" was first used by Charles and Mary Beard about seventy years ago when describing the American Civil War .the years the term "Second American Revolution" has been viewed differently by different parties. The historians of the Civil War Era always had difficulties with accepting this term. In any case, Civil War greatly changed the sense of balance of political power between North and South and significantly speed up the appearance of industrial capitalism in the post-war period.

  10. As the men of the population went off to help fight in the war, there wasn't no one back home to farm. 11. 1. How did economic and political factors help cause the South to lose the Civil War?

The south became rebellious against the north when they looked down upon their way of life. When the two saw their different POV's on slavery they decided to declare war on each other. The south started its ignorance by secedding from the union and creating the confederated south. The split of the two would eventually show a major economic difference, thou the north was an industrialist section the had a dependence from the south and its cotton. Thou they saw that slavery was an economic good they saw it as moraly wrong or inhumane.

When lincoln won the election in 1860 was a bad notice for the south, for he wanted to stop slavery from spreading north or towards the new western territories. As the war continued the north had more more political control than the confederated south over its population. The south was dwarfed in population size and when the war started they took all their souther male population to fight. As the war continued the population in the south decreased and so did their millitary power.

The south while it had good millitary leaders didnt have a big enough population of soldiers to fight.

  13. 3. To what extent is it correct to say that the Civil War represented a second American Revolution?

Some say that the Civil War is a second American Revolution. This may be true. The Civil War, just like the American Revolution, started partially or fully because of secession of various groups from the government they were under. The difference is that the American Revolution was for freedom. The Civil War was over slavery as well as states' rights. With the American Revolution, the American colonies(whom would later become the United States of America) declared their independence from Great Britain because of the unfair treatment they received from Great Britain. With the Civil War, the South was fighting with the North because they felt they had the right to continue having slavery and spread it to the West.

Speaking of the issue of slavery, that was another reason for the Civil War was initiated. The North felt that not only slavery be prohibited from spreading to the West, but that slavery should be abolished and removed from the country, much to the South's disagreement. The American Revolution wanted freedom as well. The American colonies wanted to be freed from Britain's control and manipulation. So, freedom was another goal that was shared between the American Revolution and the Civil War. Also The Civil War could also be considered as another test against the strength of America as well as the Union.

  14. Question 2

It is correct for alot of reasons . First off all you see that the country is split into two parts. You see that with the colonist . The confederancey separated fromage the union and created their own government. The north was like britian in a sense because they saw rebbellion of the south so thats whats was going on.

  15. The reason the south lost economically is because the lack of farming and exporting and imported goods. The food supply had gotten low. Using the Anaconda plan the Union blocked the Southerners the free to trade with other countries. The north also had more men than the south.
They politically lost because some of the state's were neutral. Jefferson Davis couldn't force a neutral state to fight in a war they didn't want to be apart of. The north had an advanced industrial system. They were able to make their own firearms for the war. The south's transportation system compare to the north's transportation system.
